Itinerary

Your 4-day Fez to Marrakech desert tour begins with an early pick-up from your accommodation or an agreed meeting point in Fez. Drive south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing Ifrane and the cedar forest near Azrou. A short forest stop offers the chance to see Barbary macaques and take photos of the woodland scenery.

Continue towards Midelt for a lunch break, then travel through the Ziz Valley, with its palm groves, traditional settlements and changing desert landscapes. Coffee, comfort and photo stops can be arranged around the day’s journey.

Reach Merzouga, beside the Erg Chebbi dunes, and settle into a traditional auberge for your first night. Enjoy the desert atmosphere and rest before a full day exploring the Sahara region. Your camel ride and desert camp overnight take place on the following day.

Wake early, if you wish, for sunrise over the dunes and photos in the morning light. Return to the auberge for a shower and breakfast before exploring the Merzouga region.

Visit Khamlia for local Gnawa music, then discover Rissani’s streets, markets and desert culture. For lunch, try medfouna, the traditional stuffed bread, or another local dish.

For extra adventure, choose an optional 4×4 dune tour, quad bike or buggy ride. These activities are not included in the tour price; contact Omega Tour separately to confirm availability, timing and cost.

Return to Merzouga for your camel ride among the Erg Chebbi dunes. Enjoy the scenery and sunset when timing allows, then continue to your tent at the desert camp for the second overnight.

Rise early for another optional Sahara sunrise, then enjoy a shower and breakfast. Leave the camp by camel or 4×4, according to your preference, and meet your driver for the journey west. Watch the landscapes change from desert plains to palm groves and rocky mountain scenery, with photo and coffee stops along the way.

At Todra Gorge, your driver stops beside the river for a short independent walk, photos or time to sit and enjoy the towering cliffs. You may bring sandwiches, fruit or other picnic food to eat by the water. Alternatively, your driver can suggest nearby restaurants for lunch. This is a relaxed riverside break before continuing the drive.

Travel through the Boumalne Dades area, with a possible stop in Kalaat M’Gouna. Spend the night in Boumalne Dades or Ouarzazate, depending on accommodation availability and the season.

Timing note: If you reach Ouarzazate early enough, visit Kasbah Taourirt and the film studios. Otherwise, these visits can move to Day 4, according to your confirmed route and opening hours.

After breakfast, continue from your accommodation in Boumalne Dades or Ouarzazate. If you stayed in Dades, travel onwards to Ouarzazate. There is time to arrange the Kasbah Taourirt and film studio visits if they were not completed the previous afternoon, allowing for the day’s driving schedule and opening hours.

Continue to Aït Ben Haddou, the celebrated fortified village and UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore its earthen lanes, traditional buildings and viewpoints, with time for photos and a lunch stop along the route.

Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, enjoying changing mountain scenery and selected photo or comfort stops. Arrive in Marrakech and finish your four-day desert tour at your accommodation or the nearest agreed accessible drop-off point.
