Itinerary

Your 5 days Fez to Marrakech desert tour begins with pick-up from your accommodation or an agreed meeting point in Fez. Travel south through the Middle Atlas to Ifrane, known for its red-roofed buildings and mountain setting. Enjoy a short stop for photos before continuing towards Azrou.

Visit the cedar forest near Azrou, where Barbary macaques may be seen among the trees. Take time to enjoy the forest scenery; wildlife sightings depend on the day. Continue through mountain landscapes and rural towns, with a lunch break and comfort stops along the route.

Arrive in Midelt and settle into your accommodation for the first overnight. This mountain stop breaks the journey towards the Sahara, leaving the Ziz Valley and Merzouga for the following day.

After breakfast, continue towards the Ziz Valley, where palm groves, traditional villages and arid mountain scenery mark the approach to southern Morocco. Stop at viewpoints and take breaks around the day’s driving schedule.

Travel towards Erfoud and Rissani. Depending on timing and the market day, explore the local atmosphere of Rissani and ask about tasting medfouna, the region’s traditional stuffed bread.

Continue to Merzouga, beside the Erg Chebbi dunes, for your second overnight in a hotel or traditional auberge. Your camel ride and desert camp overnight take place the following day. Accommodation and meal arrangements follow your confirmed booking option.

After breakfast at your Merzouga hotel or auberge, spend the day discovering the Sahara region. Visit Khamlia to enjoy Gnawa music and learn about the village’s musical traditions. Along the way, take in the changing views of the Erg Chebbi dunes and nearby desert settlements.

You can also choose an optional 4×4 excursion, quad-bike ride or buggy experience, subject to availability. These activities cost extra and are confirmed in advance. If you prefer a quieter day, enjoy time to relax near the dunes before the afternoon camp transfer.

In the late afternoon, meet the desert team for a camel ride through the Erg Chebbi dunes, with sunset views depending on the season and departure time. Continue to your Sahara camp for dinner and an overnight beneath the desert sky. A 4×4 transfer can replace the camels, or be combined with a camel ride one way, on request.

Wake early if you would like to see the Sahara sunrise. After breakfast and time to freshen up, leave the dunes by camel or a pre-arranged 4×4 transfer and begin the drive west.

Continue towards Tinghir and Todra Gorge. Take a short riverside walk beneath the canyon walls and stop for lunch in Tinghir or near the gorge. Travel through the Dades region and Kelaat Mgouna towards Ouarzazate.

Reach Ouarzazate for your fourth overnight. This is a longer travel day, with comfort and photo stops arranged around road conditions. Your confirmed itinerary sets out accommodation and meal arrangements.

After breakfast, discover the Ouarzazate area. If you would like to visit Taourirt Kasbah, the cinema museum or a film studio, tell our team in advance so we can confirm opening hours, timing and any entrance or guide fees.

Continue to Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its earthen architecture. Take time to explore the village and stop for lunch before crossing the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka.

Arrive in Marrakech for drop-off at your accommodation or the nearest accessible meeting point. Your five-day journey ends in Marrakech. Arrival time depends on traffic, road conditions and the stops agreed with your driver.
