Itinerary

Your 5 days Marrakech to Fes desert tour begins with pick-up from your accommodation or an agreed accessible meeting point. Cross the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka, with photo and comfort stops along the mountain road.

Continue to Aït Ben Haddou to explore its earthen lanes and fortified architecture. Enjoy a lunch break before travelling to Ouarzazate. If you would like to visit Taourirt Kasbah or a film studio, tell us in advance so we can confirm timing, opening hours and any entrance fees.

Settle into your accommodation in Ouarzazate for the first overnight. Your confirmed booking sets out the room and meal arrangements.

After breakfast, travel east through Skoura, known for its palm groves and earthen kasbahs, then continue towards Kelaat M’Gouna and the Valley of Roses. Enjoy changing views of villages, cultivated valleys and mountain scenery.

Discover the Dades region with stops arranged around the day’s route. Continue to Tinghir and Todra Gorge, where a short riverside walk offers views beneath the canyon’s high limestone cliffs. Stop for lunch in Tinghir or near the gorge.

Spend the second night in a hotel or traditional kasbah accommodation in the Tinghir or Todra area. The exact property and meals are confirmed before booking.

Leave the Todra area after breakfast and travel through Tinejdad towards the Sahara. Watch the mountain valleys give way to open, arid landscapes, with photo stops and comfort breaks along the route.

Continue via Erfoud to Rissani. Depending on timing and the market day, explore the town’s local atmosphere and ask about trying medfouna, the region’s traditional stuffed bread. Any guided visit or additional activity is agreed in advance.

Arrive in Merzouga, beside the Erg Chebbi dunes, for an overnight in a hotel or traditional auberge near the dunes. Relax before the following day’s Sahara activities; the camp overnight takes place on Day 4.

Wake early for optional sunrise views, then enjoy breakfast at your Merzouga accommodation. Spend time discovering the desert surroundings and visit Khamlia to enjoy Gnawa music and learn about the village’s musical traditions.

Optional 4×4 excursions, quad bikes and buggies can be arranged, subject to availability and extra charges confirmed in advance. You can also choose a quieter day near the dunes before your camp transfer.

In the late afternoon, take a camel ride through the Erg Chebbi dunes to your Sahara camp, with sunset views depending on the season and departure time. Enjoy dinner and your camp overnight. A 4×4 instead of camels, or camels one way and a 4×4 the other way, can be requested.

Rise early if you would like to see the Sahara sunrise. After breakfast and time to freshen up, leave the camp by camel or a pre-arranged 4×4 transfer and begin the drive north towards Fes.

Travel through the Ziz Valley, with palm-grove viewpoints, then continue via Midelt into the Middle Atlas. Take a lunch break and comfort stops around the driving schedule. Near Azrou, stop in the cedar forest for a chance to see Barbary macaques; wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Continue through Ifrane to Fes for drop-off at your accommodation or the nearest accessible meeting point. This is a substantial driving day; arrival time depends on road conditions, traffic and the agreed stops.
